A Construction Company Builds Employee Legacy With Custom Apparel


Hensel Phelps has developed long-standing relationships with their clients and trade partners. They’ve developed these relationships based on mutual respect and earned trust. This collaborative approach extends to their relationship with our team at FlowState Marketing where we produce custom merchandise and apparel for their teams. With this project, Hensel Phelps was looking for facebuffs, socks, and hats which would be used as employee gifts and recruitment rewards, training incentives, and as promo for trade shows.


Given their values as an employee-owned company, it stands to reason that Hensel Phelps looks for quality at a competitive price point when ordering custom apparel. They also look for a partner who can support them on the design, production, and delivery of these goods in a professional, collaborative, and transparent manner. It’s a great fit, and one that is truly aligned with our own core values as a company.

While a reasonably straightforward project in terms of requirements, one item we were mindful of during the design and sampling process, was working to Hensel Phelps’ brand standards. It was important to the client that we ensured the facebuffs, socks, and hats were to their exact brand specifications. Given this, we allowed time for multiple sample rounds, gathering valuable input from the client along the way to get the end product just right.


Hensel Phelps was not only excited about quality products at a good price point, but also by the ability to customize the products with unique design features. By collaborating with the client during the sampling process, we landed on a number of features for the facebuffs, socks and hats.

The facebuffs would have a mesh inner lining, and a fully sublimated polyester exterior featuring their logo. For the socks, we worked closely with Hensel Phelps to improve the quality of the appearance of their logo, playing with embroidery and woven features, before settling on a woven logo that met their brand standards. Lastly, it was decided the trucker hats would have a curved bill, a screen printed underbill and a leather patch on the front of the hat. They also featured a crane with the Hensel Phelps logo. Hensel Phelps loved the samples of facebuffs and hats they received during the production process so much that they increased their order quantity.
